REVIEW #1 – GU Energy Products

We are slowly working through a sampler pack of GUs. So far, the product works well, gave us shots of energy on our long bike rides and the GUs taste pretty good. My favorite flavors are the Mint Chocolate and the Tri-berry.

The Boyfriend, who normally doesn’t like anything sweet, has been raving for days about how tasty the Blueberry Pomegranite GU was. He said it had an “exceptional flavor and could easily substitute the GU for jam on toast or as a dessert.” 🙂

It was unanimous that the pineapple flavor was NOT good. It had a strange flavor and I did not enjoy the aftertaste. Like I stated above, we are still working through the other flavors.

I also tried the GU Brew and GU Recovery Brew. All the flavors I’ve tried of the drink mixes are delicious and work really well! Success!

My favorite flavor is the Chocolate Outrage. It tastes so good! 😉

REVIEW #2 – ATTUNE BARS

Today I tried the Chocolate Mint bar. It’s 90 calories. I’d never heard of Attune before but a quick look at their website looked pretty good to me. They claim:

*Attune probiotics are clinically proven to help support a healthy digestive and immune system.

*More calcium, more fiber, and less sugar than most yogurts.

*5x the live cultures of yogurt!

I tried the Chocolate Mint and LOVED it! The mint flavor was strong and delightful. It had a crunch similar to Nestle Crunch bars. I love that they are 90 calories, too. I’m looking forward to trying the other flavors.

Review #3 – REI Women’s Running Shorts

I’ve worn my new REI running shorts twice now. The first time was at the gym and I determined that they were too hot to wear inside the gym. The second time I wore the shorts, I wore them running outside. This was a much better experience. I wasn’t overly hot. They didn’t ride up in uncomfortable ways, and my legs didn’t rub together or chafe in any way.

They are 88% Recycled Polyester and 12% Spandex.

One of the things about running shorts that annoy me–they rarely have pockets! This pair of shorts has one small pocket on the thigh. I wasn’t sure if that would be good enough for me, but it was. I was able to fit my badge in the pocket and there was no risk of it falling out.

I think these are my new favorite shorts!

UPDATE: These are my favorite running shorts I’ve ever had. I want to buy more!

Review #4 -Brooks Ravenna Running Shoes

I am in love. They feel fantastic. I was concerned about the size 9 (I usually wear an 8.5 shoe). I thought it might be like running in clown shoes 😉 but it really wasn’t. I didn’t feel awkward in them at all.

I felt faster in this shoes than I’ve ever felt in shoes. I felt light on my feet, fully supported and cushioned with every step.

They do not hurt my feet or legs at all. The Asics I tried made my shins and feet hurt the day after my run. So far, Brooks does not do that.

Review #7 – Sugoi Cycling Shorts (Female)

Recently I tried my new Sugoi bike shorts that a rep sent me last month. First, they fit much better than my Pearl Izumi shorts. However they are a size larger than what I have.

Second, I like that they are a tad longer than my other shorts too. They also have a special “sticky” like tab along the seem to keep the bike shorts comfortably in place.

The only con that I see is that the padding is NOT quite as thick as my Pearl Izumi shorts. More padding is desired for longer bike rides but they were fine for the short ride we that morning. I will definitely be using these Sugoi bike shorts as my back up pair for shorter bike rides.

Review #8 – POM Wonderful

The people over at POM Wonderful sent me some samples to try and review. They sent me a brochure detailing the amazing healthy benefits of pomegranite juice.

First, the “Pros”:

It tastes really good. I like the flavor and it’s not too sweet. I’ve also tried their Hibiscus POM and LOVED that flavor even more.

It’s packed with Antioxidants and they also claim that it helps with good cardiovascular health, improving male erectile issues, AND it protects men from prostate problems. All good things. From their website:

Now, the “Cons”:

It’s really high in calories. Period. That’s the only con for me. One of the small bottles (8 ounces) is 160 calories. That’s too high. Honestly, I would never by this in the store and drink it. If I’m going to drink 160 calories of anything it will be a glass of wine or a really good pint of beer. But that’s just me–I prefer not to drink my calories.

I had 4 ounces of the POM with breakfast one morning and I diluted the rest of it with water and ice. It tasted okay diluted but again, I didn’t want to drink 160 calories for breakfast!
